§ 1-13. General penalty; maximum; continuing violations; labor on streets and public property; working off fines.

  • (a)

    It shall be unlawful for any person to violate or fail to comply with any provision of this Code; and where no specific penalty is provided, the violation of any provision of this Code shall be punished by a fine not exceeding $500.00 or imprisonment for a term not exceeding 60 days, or by both such fine and imprisonment, within the discretion of the court. Each day any violation of any provision of this Code shall continue constitutes a separate offense.

    (b)

    In all criminal prosecutions for the violation of any of the provisions of the Code or other police regulations or ordinances of the city where any person is convicted of any offense punishable with fine or imprisonment, the judge before whom such conviction is had may sentence the person so convicted to work on any city property belonging to the city, for a period equal to half the term of imprisonment for which he may be sentenced.
